old school homie and aloha fixed frontman ryan lau puts on a great little social event at kaka`ako park…it’s called aloha sunday.
local fixie afficianados gather for fun, games…
…food, drink, and friendly dogs.
big ups to the whole aloha fixed crew, everyone was super friendly and the games were fun. i’ll be there with less camera gear next time so i can actually participate…
all in all a great aloha sunday.

if i could please get you to direct your attention to the “categories” tab to the right of the website…this post is honozooloo’s 100th photography-related article. hooray! in the 8 short months since i launched this latest, wordpress-based version of honozooloo, i have managed to publish one hundred photo-related articles. for those not so good with the maths, that’s an average of 2 articles a week, with an average of 200+ images per gallery. so here i am, 8,000+ published photos, 2.xxx million hits, and 8 months into honozooloo version 4. what a ride its been.

i don’t want to count how many work hours this encompasses behind the shutter, behind a keyboard, etc. but believe me when i say that it easily tallies into the hundreds of hours. during that time i’ve made many friends, picked up a few publications, seen a lot of crazy stuff, and had an absolute blast doing what i do. to my friends, clients, and loyal viewers…thank you for helping make this a fun, worthwhile, and effin’ awesome time. not many people know this, but honozooloo has existed as a registered LLC for nearly 8 years. but the last 8 months have been more successful than anything before that…so really, i said it once but i’ll say it again: thank you everyone.

to celebrate i compiled a pretty nifty little photo collage. are you in it? maybe. if you aren’t…sorry, and maybe you’ll make it into the collage for post number two hundred. ha!

oh, and one last thing: if you haven’t already, please please please check out my new side project, 5tolife. it’s a more personal, artsy fartsy kind of project but i think you’ll love it!
ok, back to work…

first off, big ups to the loft, christa from supercw, and of course myopenbar!
it was a killer night, with free sailor jerry rum and great music.
the deadbeats closed the night with their crazy blend of live hip hop, and DJs eskae and kitty chow held it down on the 1s and 2s.
all the friends were there.
and it was such a fun party even i managed to get drunk and take a bunch of pictures of people with their heads cut off. and that’s saying something because i never drink.
much much much fun!

this saturday was a busy night for me. of course the biggest news of the night was that living legends crew member the grouch had a show at the loft. but there was actually a lot going down this past saturday night in chinatown.
homies the deadbeats were opening for the 86 list at indigo…and the rocket powered cadillac was blasting off at mercury bar along with guest MC know(juander). (click here to view RPC’s gallery)
the spacifics opened for the grouch, and they provided live instrumentation, with guest mcs creed chameleon…
backed up by dj fresh,
the grouch threw down the kind of live set that has solidified his place in the hip cop community. it’s been a few years since i’ve seen him rock a set (the last time i saw him was at justice league….ha) but his live set is as i remember it. that is to say its dope, and always consistent.
despite running in between 3 venues and stressing about overlapping sets between the groups i was supposed to cover…it was another fun night. dope live music and good times all around.

this past friday, hotel st, nuuanu ave, and bethel st were closed for the taste of the arts street festival in chinatown. all of your favorite chinatown restaurants had booths set up, and a few of my favorite bands were there to provide entertainment. local ska legends go jimmy go rocked the usual high-energy set we all know and love.
the spacifics were also on hand, backed up by local mc emirc aka tassho pearce.
there was great live music, good food, and even everyone’s favorite nightlife blogger hooking it up in the wine dept.
everyone in chinatown had a good time.

the deadbeats +rebel XTi + 50mm f/1.8 lens = available light photography.

i teamed up with filmmakers/creative juggernauts chris kahunahana and joe pa`ahana to do the cinematography for a 5-minute short entered in this september’s showdown in chinatown.
the film was entitled “do you believe in magic 5″ and it was filmed, edited, and scored in less than 48 hours.
it was an interpretive retelling of the classic Greek myth Orpheus, and as far as i know it was the only film at this showdown with an original score and scenes captured with a waterhousing. it was an ambitious project and i’m proud to have been a part of it. needless to say it was a blast to make.
big ups to the winning film from wadalife productions, it was HILARIOUS!
look for more film madness from honozooloo, coming your way…
thanks again to the entire do you believe in magic crew.

this past saturday, the groundUp movement hosted an event at the design center.
…dope art
…dope fashion
…dope music
the venues may change but the flavor of the events don’t. this was a positive place for artists to come together and share their talent.
last but not least i’d like to apologize to ya’ll for the tardiness of this post…been swamped in work. the past 2 weeks have had me in 3 galleried exhibitions (one juried), and playing cinematographer for a film entered in the last showdown in chinatown. yikes.
finally, big ups to the groundUp crew, and thanks for letting me exhibit at this event!
much love.

this past first friday, i had an exhibit up at the loft.
other than that, nextdoor reopened for a special first friday night!
dope ass designer joe pa`ahana displayed his finest nextdoor flyer creations in lightboxes….
and of course the DJs kept it moving. all in all, a really really great night!

what does the freeway at night, three indie actresses, a sailboat, chessboard, and video games have in common?
they are the reasons my posts have been slowed down a bit. its a bit hard to explain but i’m taking a little time off from the daily grind to exercise some artistic freedom. call it a mini sabattical. don’t worry ya’ll, images will be available from last weekend’s festivities soon…
and if you are interested in seeing what i’ve been up to this week, check out the showdown in chinatown this saturday night at thirtyninehotel in (where else?) chinatown. i worked with a few crazy kids from nextdoor on a film project that’s entered in the showdown. so show up and cheer us on! i may also be displaying a photo piece at the koa art gallery at kcc saturday as well.
busy busy busy.
i thank everyone for their patience!

HI state mc creed chameleon launched his third album on local label siq records…
…siq of lazy, this saturday night at e&o trading co.
it was a dope night, with live art by pocket full of monsters crewmember cKaweeks.
live performances by blessDchil,
the perfect mediums perfect median,
and of course the man of the hour himself, creed chameleon.
big ups to creed and the siq crew for putting together a great live event!

…for the deadbeats.
first off, they rocked a live, on-the-air set at ktuh.
they were on the best of monday night live, hosted by dj catwings.
then on wednesday, they rocked their usual set at jazz minds…
with a twist. it was the first-ever deadbeats pajama jam.
in addition to the PJ-only dress code
local band lost at sea was on hand to throw down a crazy set.
along with a few of the dopest local MCs also in the cypher.
it was a fun, boxer shorts filled night.
